Coaching Certification

Virginia Youth Soccer Association provides 3 levels of national certification that are available to our club coaches.  For details on each level of certification, see below.  Coaches who complete certification may request reimbursement by contacting CSC Coach Coordinator.

For schedule of upcoming courses, see VYSA Coaching Education.

"USSF "F" License  (2-hour online course)
The mission of the USSF license is to provide the most current and advanced information on growth and development of the youth soccer player. The youth soccer player is defined as any child from pre-school through adolescence. The course takes the approach that the GAME WITHIN EACH CHILD is at the center of all belief, decisions, and actions taken by the child, coach, and organization. It is the ultimate goal of youth soccer development to unlock the game within the child to reach their full soccer potential.

For more information on the US Soccer National F license, see USSF F License.

18 hour course (typically Fri, Sat, Sun)
The "E" License is designed for the parent/coach who may or may not have any previous soccer playing or coaching experience. The curriculum focuses on the development of the player, both individually and as part of the team. The emphasis will be to build on the player’s technical development by applying tactical concepts within a team environment. The candidate should be 16 years of age or older.

For more information on the US Soccer E license, see USSF E license.

"D" LICENSE  (2-weekend course, 6 months apart)
The D License is the highest-level license that VYSA offers and that CSC currently reimburses. In order to maintain consistency in the delivery and execution of the course the objectives, expectations, and grading for the "D" License course have been established by US Soccer.  At the conclusion of the course the candidate will receive a National "D", a State "D" or a fail.  The candidate should be at least 18 years of age.
Objectives:
To prepare coaches working with players 12 years of age and above by expanding their knowledge and understanding of the technical and tactical demands of the game and the developmental process necessary for players of these ages.
To provide an understanding of practical coaching methodology and the framework necessary to prepare players and a team for competition.
To prepare coaches for whom this represents their final coaching course, as well as those who plan to continue to further their coaching education.
Those wishing to attend the D License course must have successfully completed an E certificate course and have held the E certificate for at least 6 months.

For more information on the US Soccer D License course, see VYSA D license.
