Parent Handbook and Resources

Welcome players and families to another great season with Chesapeake Soccer Club!  Please review the information below to get acquainted with CSC.

Season Start-up at CSC  Registration is complete.  What's next?

CSC Code of Conduct for Players, Parents, and Coaches  Help us support the CSC motto through our sportsmanship.  Note:  3 pages.  One each for players, parents, and coaches.  These quotes were taken directly from CSC parents and coaches through a survey in Fall 2014.  Thanks to all who participated!

Team Duties:  3 Ways Parents Help Create the Fun  Each CSC team is responsible for these 3 duties.  Thank you for making the season run smoothly.

7 Tips for a Happy Game Day  Important information to prepare for game days.

Concussion Management  Important information regarding what to do, what to look for, and how parents and players can team with CSC to keep safety our #1 priority for the kids.

Recognize to Recover  NEW! VYSA's program for safety guidelines.  Concussions, heat illness, other sports related injuries, goal safety, lightning safety, and nutrition.

Laws of the Game  A guide to the rules of the game that apply to our club. All parents, players and coaches are encouraged to read and understand these documents to prevent misunderstandings on the field.  Did you know? No headers U12 and below.  No goal keepers U8 and below.  U10 "breakout line" is in effect.

Referees  CSC Parents are expected to NOT engage with the referees during games.  Experienced referees are leaving the profession due to abusive behavior and language from parents, coaches and players.  We MUST change what we are able to:  our own behavior.  Please keep in mind that U7 & U8 referees are volunteer; many others are someone's child learning to thrive and succeed in their first job.  Give them a break, sit back and enjoy watching your child play!

Abuse Prevention  CSC is committed to adhering to the VYSA Abuse Prevention Policy.

Optional Abuse Prevention Training for Parents and Players:  The U.S. Center for SafeSport has released five training modules focused on Youth Athletes.  These resources were developed for minor athletes and their parents to understand the importance of a positive environment in sports, explain the issues of misconduct, help ensure children have a positive and safe experience and know where to report abuse, should it occur.  The modules are age-based:

  • Preschool
  • Grades K-2
  • Grades 3-5
  • Middle School
  • High School

Each training module is 10-20 minutes in length.  A parent/guardian must first create a SafeSport account in order to give consent for their child to access the training and select the module for their child's age.  The training is free and can be found at https://athletesafety.org/training/index.  US Youth Soccer and VYSA encourages all parents, coaches and players to take advantage of this free resource and training.
