1. How do I know what age group my child should play in?
· US Soccer sets age groups based on a calendar year. Your child should play in the age group associated to the age they will turn that calendar year. For example, if your player is 9 years old but turns 10 years old in December, they will play in the U10 age group. Follow this link for more to view the chart: US Club Soccer Birth Year Chart
2. What leagues do your teams play in?
· Recreational: Our recreational teams play in an in-house league and are for ages U10 to U4. The focus is on player exposure and development in soccer.
· Advanced: Advanced teams play in TASL (Tidewater Advanced Soccer League). Information on TASL can be found at https://tasli.org.
· Travel: Travel teams play in VPSL (Virginia Premier Soccer League) and compete in the NPL (National Premier League). Information can be found at https://www.vapremierleague.com/npl.
3. How long are the soccer seasons?
· Teams are scheduled for 8 games of league play per season but weather may impact this. Each team will play a minimum of 6 games. (This does not include travel tournaments as decided by individual teams and coaches) Fall season normally runs from September-November and Spring season normally runs from March-May.
4. What is the difference between Advanced or Elite/Travel?
· Advanced refers to the teams that play in TASL. Divisions in TASL vary considerably in competitiveness, with a range from competitive (pre-travel level of play) to a step up from recreational, depending on the division of your team. Elite/Travel teams play in NPL and compete against the Elite/Travel teams from other area (Southeast Virginia) clubs.
5. Is my child ready to play advanced?
· Advanced is the next step up from recreational soccer. Advanced soccer builds on soccer fundamentals to include more position-based play and possession soccer. Our coaches develop each child into a team player. The focus is on the development of the team and player. We want to be competitive and play great games of soccer while seeing growth. If you are unsure whether your player is ready, feel free to request a player evaluation by emailing [email protected] or [email protected].
6. Where do teams practice and play home games?
· Practice: Teams will practice either at Centerville Soccer Complex or at a satellite location approved through city permits.
· Home Games: Played at Centerville Soccer Complex, 1857 Centerville Turnpike S, our fields are the front 3 game fields (6, 7 & 8).
7. How far do you travel for TASL or Travel games?
· Advanced: Approximately 50% of the games (8 total games per season) are played at Centerville Soccer Complex (home games). TASL games are throughout the Hampton Roads/Tidewater Area as far north as Williamsburg and as far south as the Outer Banks. However, expect to have 2-4 games played at the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex (HRSC) as several clubs have home fields there.
· Travel: The same number of games and homes games apply to Travel. However, the away games may extend as far as Richmond (rare). The travel league is a level of play, not necessarily a longer commute for games. While our Elite/Travel teams may travel to tournaments which require players to stay at a pre-defined hotel, this is not expected with regular season league play.
8. What are your player fees? (We try to keep costs low to keep families happy!)
· Recreation: Fees range from $75-$105 increasing by age per season. A season constitutes Fall or Spring.
· Advanced: Our TASL (Advanced) program is $150 for U9 and U10 Teams and $160 for U11 & up per season. A season constitutes Fall or Spring.
· Travel: Our Travel program is a full year commitment and is $700 (price includes both Fall and Spring season). However, payments may be broken up into two installments: $350 for Fall season and $350 for Spring season. Travel fees include one travel tournament per year.
9. What tournaments can we expect?
· Tournament play is decided on a team-by-team basis. Coaches compile a list of tournaments available to fit each team’s unique skillset and consult families with fees and dates available.
10. How often do teams practice?
· Practice schedules vary by team. Advanced teams normally practice twice per week and Travel teams can practice anywhere from 2-3 times per week including individual position practices. All members of Chesapeake Soccer Club have technical training available to them twice per week during the Fall and Spring seasons in addition to regular practice schedules. Technical training is optional, but highly encouraged.
11. Where do we purchase uniforms?
· Chesapeake Soccer Club uses a local vendor for uniforms. Ordering windows are made available to our families and a website is opened for a specific ordering period of time. The link will be available on the website and coaches will make the information available to their teams. Please do not miss these windows as it takes 3-4 weeks for orders to come in.
Unfortunately, due to processing fees and establishment of teams, refunds will not be given.
